  Are old RAID arrays worth purchasing/using.

  I recently have a chance to purchase a Medea RAID Array with 10 drives (the drives come with the array and are all 250gb Hitachi drives). The drives and the RAID Array all date from about 2005, but have hardly been used. My question is, is this equipment still usable, and worth a purchase? I’m pretty sure the I/O connections on the back consist of FireWire 800 for media connection and an RS 232 for computer connection. I have a macbook pro currently running the last version of Yosemite.

  Hi –
  you have 10 250Gb drives. This is 2.5 TB. These are 10 – 11 year old drives.

  You can buy a single 3TB HGST drive for $130, and a Highpoint Thunderbolt dock for your
  MacBook Pro for $146.

  So are you actually asking “why should I spend 300 bucks, for a brand new fast reliable drive and dock, when I can just reuse my 11 year old Medea ?”.

  You can now answer your own question.
