    Which is ‘better’, in terms of speed, complexity performance, reliability etc…

    Using a RAID card and a JBOD enclosure?
    or
    Using ‘plain’ SATA/SAS and an enclosure with built-in RAID?

    Or do they amount to the same thing?
    Obviously there may be a price difference, but is that significant?

    One difference thats right at the top is that with a RAID card your RAID is not ‘portable’ so you can’t simply plug it from system to system. It would need the exact same RAID card in all systems, right?
