• Adobe After Effects

  No DropZones?

  New here, from FCP and Motion, and am surprised there are no DropZone type objects available. I googled and found a video on AE DropZones, but apparently it was for an older version because i still don’t see any way to create a DropZone in my the current AE CC…

  Anyone?

  Not every feature in Motion has an exact parallel in After Effects, and vice versa.

  Thanks, i realize that, but is there anything close in AE? Seems like it is so far advanced there would be some way to drop a video into a template that is pre-sized, filtered, etc.

  Create your ‘Drop Zone’ in your comp and adjust it to your liking.
  Select it’s layer.
  Then Alt-drag your replacement clip from the Project Panel onto the layer in the timeline.
  The new clip will inherit all scaling and filters from the original.

  Lot’s of tutorials online. Search for “After Effects replace footage”.

  You can use nested comps as “drop zones”. I haven’t used Motion 4 that much but was a big user of previous versions and I think that will help. Just create a comp within your main comp and use it as you would a drop box.
