    I’ve got a Mac Pro with one 1TB boot drive and three 2TB drives in a RAID 5. I’m moving the boot drive to the second optical bay and adding a fourth identical 2TB drive to the RAID array. In OS X 10.6.8, is there a way to expand the array with the added drive, or do I need to delete the set and start over? Thanks…

    I assume you have a RAID card? (Don’t think the standard edition of Mac OSX supports RAID5.)

    If so – yes, the data is preserved during expansion – see page 10 of this guide:

    Yes, I do have an Apple RAID card installed. That guide is exactly what I needed; didn’t know I’d be using Terminal commands for this one. I now have the new drive added to my RAID set. Thanks!
