Raid0 and Raid 1
Posted by Milan Hazucha on November 5, 2010 at 3:13 pmI want to create HW Raid 0 with 2x30GB velociraptors for programs only and HW Raid 1 with 2×160 GB drives for data, video, etc. Is it possible to do? Is it a reasonable approach since I do not have 3 about equal drives for Raid 5 or four same size HD for 0+1.
Thanks.Milan Hazucha replied 15 years, 6 months ago 3 Members · 6 Replies -

November 8, 2010 at 6:45 pmThanks Jon. I have Abit IC7-Max3 MOBO with socket 478, chipset 875P with on-board RAID. So it will be internal HW RAID.

You may want to check the “abit” literature that comes with the card you want to use to see what they recommend, or contact them if not check their FAQ page. Unless someone on this or another forum is using & has experience with the same card – hardware configuration, your best bet is the manufacturer.
I will say this though, for the sake of simplicity, only run drives of the same make & model number, and capacity when dealing with any hardware RAID. I’d also highly recommend Enterprise class drives for the best fault protection & long term reliability, especially in a RAID setting.

November 8, 2010 at 8:32 pmI’m pretty sure you won’t be able to pull off the 2 RAIDs, but definitely check with the MOBO manufacturer. I’m betting it will be RAID-1 HW and RAID-0 SW, but again that is if your Hardware will do that.
