  • Poor AFP read speeds after updating our server to Mavericks

Posted by Devin Crane on April 2, 2014 at 5:11 pm

We are currently editing over AFP with Mac Pro setup as our server attached to a 32TB DAS via a ATTO R680 card. We updated it last night to Mavericks and are only getting 20-30mb/s read speed over AFP on our other Mac Pros. All the drivers and such have been update and seems only affect drives that are connected through a PCI-E slot. We test on a internal Raid-0 we have setup and all seemed fine. Anyone have same issues or solutions? After finding this issue we found the same issue with another Mac Pro that had been updated to Mavericks, the DAS had the same read speeds.

please describe the exact setup of your system. AFP works wonderfully with Mavericks. You should be seeing speeds higher than 100 MB/sec.

    2.4 8Core 2010 Mac Pro 8 Gigs of Ram
Small Tree 2 port Gig E Card, also using internal Gig E port, issues on both sets
R680 Raid card attached to an 8bay Sans Digital box 28TB RAID 5 about 800MB/S up and down with BMD speed test.
    Drive is HFS+ Journaled
    Mavericks 10.9.2 (not server edition)
    Jumbo Frames, Flow Control enabled
Connecting to the Server via “Connect To” and not through the sidebar of Finder.
Works completely fine in Mountain lion getting 113MB/S up and down over AFP.

Did you guys resolve this? I would expect when you upgraded the thing, all the network tuning got removed from /etc/sysctl.conf
