    Hi Bob,
I have been a huge fan of your talents for many years, your guides and wisdom are always dead nuts on target!

    To: All who can help.

I am at a stuck point in my studio set-up… I have a SAN set up that involves both iScsi and F.C.

I have 5 workstations that all need to have shared access to one SAN, some need access to both. Access is not so much the problem… but “shared” is. The workstations are all Windows machines (XP, 7) and the SAN is all linux (openfiler, ubuntu). The NLE machines run Adobe products and Blender, the DAW machines run Cakewalk Sonar Producer and MOTU products.

I am aware of some of the different options(SanMP, MetaSAN/MetaLAN, HyperFS, FibreJET, Stornext, Dataplow, Falconstore DSS). I don’t know the actual cost of these options, nor do I know what the pro’s and con’s of each are. I am looking for the most affordable, workable solution, with the least amount of “issues”.

I would like to get input and relative info on these options from people who have worked or are working with any of these options, as well as advice/suggestions on my situation.

    Thank you all in advance.

    Glenn

    Hi Glenn,

Just wondering if you’ve made some progress on the sharing aspect of your SAN. Since you mentioned SANmp I wanted to point out that we have a pretty lengthy trial “period,” which, hopefully you can put to good use if you’re still working on rounding out your system.

SANmp will handle both FC and iSCSI, and the trial works for both.

Here’s a direct link to grab the trial if you want to kick the tires:

As far as price it’s about $500 MSRP, available from lots of resellers around the world. Most people seem to agree that the best thing about SANmp is that it’s incredibly easy to setup, and once it’s setup it just works. Here are a couple videos showing the quick setup process:
