    Hey guys,

I’ve got a problem with the configuration of my SAN causing it struggle connecting over fibre.

    Gear –
    Storage : Infortrend ESDS S16F-R2840-4 with 12 x 3tb Seagate constellations
Primary MDC : xserve – ATTO 8b fibre
    Clients : 2 x Mac Pro – ATTO 8gb fibre
    Software : MetaSAN
Interconnects: None – All gear going straight into Infortrend.

Issue : Only the primary MDC can connect to the SAN – The clients see the enclosure but no ‘direct access device’ which means MetaSAN defaults to metaLAN and I only get gigabit ethernet speeds. Server manages 650mb/second.

I assume I have to configure the Infortrend to act as a switch so multiple devices can mount the volume, but I’m not sure where i’ve gone wrong.

    A snapshot of my Config:
    Host connection parameters :

    Maximum Queued I/O Count : 1024
Luns per Host SCSI ID: 8
Max number of Concurrent Host-LUN connection : 4
Number of Tags reserved for each Host-LUN connection : 4
Fibre connection Option : Loop only
    Cylinder/Head/Sector : Variable

    Peripheral Device Type Parameters

Peripheral device type: Enclosure Services Device (Type=0xD)
    Peripheral Device Qualifier : Connected
Devices Supports Removable Media : Disable
LUN Applicability : First Undefined LUN

I’ve got experience with Apples xsan fibre (Couple of previous installs, including another concurrently) and my immediate temptation is to put in a switch but I’m told with the Infortrend that shouldn’t be necessary.

    Any help appreciated!
