Hello. I am new to this forum and also a newbie to SANs. I’m actually reading some literature on it and only have had the opportunity to watch our SAN administrators perform their magic. Well, all our SAN admins recently left the company (rather quickly, I might add) and I’ve been asked to take a look at two of our servers that only have one HBA connection to the SAN. We have 2 HBA cables that were disconnected from older servers and the question was asked of me to see if we could use those two HBA cables to attach to one of the two HBA cables to each of the single HBA connected servers so that each then would have two HBA connections.

Off the top of my head, it seems that we should be able to just “plug the cables” into each server to have that desired redundancy but I wondered about configurations on the SAN fabric devices. Do the connections need some configuration modifications to allow the servers to use those cables….ie. zoning (heard about this from the SAN admins that left and some of my reading).

We use EMC clarion SAN ….any advice will help, Thanks
