    Hi all,

I recently put together a shopping list to create a Videoraid ST alternative at about 40% of the price with a HP Z400 Tower. It included –

    1 – ATTO R380 SAS PCI-E Card
    2 – AIC T5 (XJ-SA12-005) 5 Bay JBOD Tower
    3 – 5 x Hitachi “Saturn” E7K1000 1TB drives – HDE721010SLA330

However we were hoping that we could use our existing HP XW8600 instead with the inbuilt LSI SAS controller card and forego the need to purchase the ATTO R380.

I understand that the LSI unit only supports RAID 0, 1 and 10, but as I have no problem working in RAID 0 for my existing projects, I was wondering would the storage still be viable without the ATTO R380?

    Many thanks
    Brian

don’t be “penny wise and pound foolish”. Buy the ATTO R380 (or the cheaper single port ATTO R348 – same card, but only one port – you only need one port). This is a great card, it’s the Supported card, and does RAID 5 perfectly. This card is used by countless manufacturers in addition to AVID. Bite the bullet, and buy the ATTO.
