I was concerned and interested in the setup (or incorrect setup) of Tyler Jones managed Gigabit ethernet switch, so I tried to contact Netgear, to get the correct setup information. They want you to email them the questions – this is what happens, when you try to ask Netgear a simple question –

“We appreciate your continuous patience and understanding. This is to acknowledge that our team has received your e-mail query however additional time is necessary to effectively process your request. One of our support engineers will get back with you very shortly. Thank you for choosing NETGEAR.

    Sincerely,

    Customer Support Team
    NETGEAR, Inc.”

    AND THE NEXT EMAIL –
    Thank you for choosing NETGEAR.

REPLY – I dont’ have a login, because I don’t own the product. I just wanted to ask a specific question. This is the reason I can’t deal with companies like this for professional video applications.

But I have not given up yet on Tyler’s situation.

Well, I just got the password from Netgear, and I was shocked at the reply, as the Netgear 7324 specifically states that it supports link aggregation- but I guess I was wrong. And I bet many IT “pros” are wrong – this is why you have to SPEAK TO SOMEONE before trying this “do it yourself” method –

Thank you for choosing NETGEAR. My name is Nick and I will be your support engineer.

I will be happy to assist you with your inquiry. We will be working to assist you in resolving the issue you described, because we are doing this online it may require a few mail exchanges before we can resolve the issue. We will do our best to help resolve your case at the least possible time.

    Please try the steps below:

This Device, the GSM7324 will not do LACP or LAG as you are requesting. We suggest either the GSM7352S or the GSM7328S. The locations for documentation are as follows:

    https://kbserver.netgear.com/products/GSM7325S.asp
    https://kbserver.netgear.com/products/GSM7328S.asp

on the left hand side of the page there is documentation for the CLI to do link aggregation.

We hope that the steps provided above would help resolve the issue. Please feel free to contact us again if you will require further assistance.

Thanks again for choosing NETGEAR. Have a great day!

I hate dealing with large companies like that. The only way to get good tech info like that before buying is to download the manual from the website.

The Dell PowerConnect switches are great and you don’t need a CLI to do LACP.

since posting this, I have looked into Asante and Hewlett Packard ProCurve, and both companies have been incredibly responsive.

I am currently using Small Tree 100% of the time now, but if I had to make a second choice, I would go with Asante, because of their support.

Which models were you looking at with Asante and the ProCurve Bob?

Sorry to bring this up from the dead. Do you have more detail on what Netgear meant by “the GSM7324 will not do LACP or LAG as you are requesting”? What were you “requesting”? Currently I have a client having issues with LAG on a GSM7324 with a Cisco device. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!
