  Opinions on Hardware

  Hi guys,
  I’ve got a question about NAS (I know this is the SAN forum, but wasn’t sure where else to post). What’s your opinion on a good NAS for a small business?

  It seems like there’s a lot of devices that have similar hardware, but the software is kind of weak. I’d like to find a NAS that doesn’t require removing junk software and hacking the box.

  This might be entirely redundant but the functionality I’m looking for is open LAN access and secure access to specific root folders via internet.

  Any suggestions or opinions would be greatly appreciated thanks!

  If you’re just looking for hardware, Aberdeen and Winchester Systems both sell excellent NAS hardware with embedded or disk based operating systems, multi-port GigE, and a huge variety of configurations.

  If you want something that’s optimized for a business environment, Apace also sells excellent solutions…although most of their products are geared toward video and they’re more expensive than those above. We own one of their products and can say that their systems do what they say they will, and their customer service, along with their reseller IEEE.inc. is the best I’ve ever had.
