    (I thought this would be easy… d’oh!)

    Trying to do a simple ripple effect: in this case the ripple is a simple sine-wave on a text layer, and the ripples displace the text only horizontally. There should be ~10 ripples along the height of an “L” for instance.

    Trickier than I thought, at least for what I thought would be the logical approaches.

    Ripples should be equal across the length of the word, i.e. not radial in any way.

    Got it:
    use CHECKERBOARD + BLUR to create procedural horizontal lines
    then PIXEL DISPLACEMENT on h. only.

    Trivial once I figure out that DISPLACEMENT Layers must be precomped, as the effect ignores the, errrr, effect of other effects.

    Another thing you can do it blur the radio waves effect and use that as a ripple.

    Just a thought.
