    Hi there,

Does anyone know of a good way to keyword video files that can be accessed via several different platforms?

For example, I want to add keywords to my video files in Bridge, I then want to be able to search for these keywords and have them show up in a spotlight search. I also want to be able to see and search for these keywords if I move them to a system that doesn’t have Adobe products, If I want to access them on a Final Cut only system for example. For some reason I am having the hardest time doing this. I don’t want to gum up my system with sidecar files either. Any suggestion?

It all depends upon having a package or utility which will read Adobe’s XMP metadata. There are many third party utilities which will allow you to view and extract metadata from files, but I find that Bridge gives me the most power. Just so you know, if you sign up for the Creative Cloud on a computer (without installing any of the Adobe CC packages), you can install a freestanding version of Adobe Bridge. This could prove helpful in your workflow. Here’s some more info on metadata reading within a web browser:

    Hi Joseph,

Thanks for the response. I already use Bridge for my keywording and I love it. I just need the functionality to be able to search these keywords in Mac’s spotlight search feature. Do you know of any way to do this? Is there some sort of plug-in or something that will allow for these XMP keywords to be “finder” searchable?

    Shane –

I’m not on the Macintosh platform, but I did find a discussion of your question on the Adobe Community discussions:

It appears that there may be hope for reading the metadata, depending on your OS version. Here’s something else which was mentioned in the discussion:
