  BMPC 4k – Excessive 4k File Import Times

  Hi All –

  I recently purchased a Blackmagic 4k Production Camera and am having a problem: When shooting in RAW, it’s taking what seems like an abnormally long amount of time to import the footage into Premiere Pro. I’ll set up a full 256gb card to import (into Premiere – it’s already on the hard drive by then), and 8-10 hours later, it’s still not finished. In fact, while I’ve managed to import a few individual clips, I’ve never successful batch imported and entire card at one time. Is this normal? I routinely work with Red 4k footage and it’s never taken longer than a few minutes to import hundreds of gigs of media.

  Here are the specs of my system:
  Mac Pro (mid 2012)
  2x 3.06 GHz 6-core processors
  NVidia GeForce GTX 680 2048 mb (Mercury PB Engine)
  16GB Ram
  Maverics
  Premiere Pro CC (latest version)

  Any ideas?

  You have to use the media browser, NOT the import function. It should import instantly. 🙂
