    Blackmagic Design today released new BMCC firmware v1.2 for the Blackmagic Cinema Camera:
    https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/

    The Read Me file says:

    =========================

    • New option for time lapse recording in the Recorder settings
    • exFAT file system support
    • F-stop values are displayed when using compatible EF lenses
    • SDI output now supports RP-188 timecode

    =========================

    The new time lapse feature is described in the updated BMCC user manual (downloadable from the link above):

    =========================

    Time Lapse Interval

    This setting allows you to record individual frames at interval ranges of 1 – 10 seconds or 1 – 10 minutes. For example, you can set the camera to record a still frame every 5 minutes. The format of each still frame is based on your recording format, so if you set the camera to record in ProRes, the time lapse setting will maintain this format. The frame rate will be based on the video frame rate you have set the camera to, i.e., 24fps, so your time lapse footage can be incorporated into your workflow easily.

    To select the time lapse interval, tap the arrow icons on the touchscreen or leave it set it to Off if you do not want to use the time lapse feature.

    =========================

    Reportedly the HD-SDI support for “RP-188 timecode” means that the BMCC can control stop/start recording when using an external recorder such as the BMD Hyperdeck Shuttle 2, triggered with the BMCC’s REC button.

    Previously, firmware v1.1 added support for lens IS (image stabilization):

    FYI: The Read Me file for BMCC firmware v1.2 includes the following note:

    ==================
    After loading the software on the camera, you may notice a slight flickering on the built-in LCD screen. This is normal and expected behaviour. The flickering will go away after a few minutes of operation.

    Yes, that was disconcerting, but it did go away!

    It’s done it on every firmware update to date with the camera, including beta builds. Not sure why, but there ya go!
