  AVI to ProRes

  Hi – I’m making some video on my Nikon D90 (I know) and am having trouble finding advice on the best pathway to convert the D90 AVI (motion jpeg) to ProRes 422.

  I have found one path through wondershare involving converting to the highest quality H264 setting I can finf (10000mbs) which I then convert to ProRes.

  However the H264 I squeeze out of Wondershare is approx half the file size fo the original AVI, which I can only assume implies a fair loss in image quality and perhaps colour space which may restrict what I can do in the grade (?).

  Has anyone any ideas on the best pathway from D90 AVI to Prores 422 to provide as little loss as possible and provide the maximum grade potential in Da Vinci Resolve?

  Shooting on PAL setting at 1280*720.

  Hi Dan,

  PC or Mac? The free FFMPEG application can convert many sources to ProRes, have used that on PC.

  Thanks Jeff – I’m on Mac, ffmpeg looks like it may take some getting to know – but I think it sounds like the best option!
