  Rendering taking longer on lower spec Mac Pro than higher spec Mac Pro?

  I am running into a strange problem. I have two Mac Pro workstations that I am working from and the (what should be) faster machine is taking a lot longer on renders.

  Machine 1 (slower machine)
  2013 MacPro (Late 2013)
  Processor: 3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5
  Memory: 64GB 1866MHz DDR3
  Graphics: AMD FirePro D700 6144MB
  OS: OS X 10.11.3

  Machine 2 (faster machine)
  2013 MacPro (Late 2013)
  Processor: 3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5
  Memory: 48GB 1866MHz DDR3
  Graphics: AMD FirePro D500 3072MB
  OS: OS X 10.11.3

  Both machines are running fresh installs of Creative Cloud and all apps are up to date. For some reason Machine 2 (with a less powerful video card and 16GB less RAM) is rendering about 3 times the speed of the other workstation. They are using identical LaCie 2big RAID drives with Thunderbolt 2. I have tried swapping drives between machines to make sure it wasn’t a drive issue and Machine 2 is still faster than Machine 1.

  I have gone through preferences and everything is identical between machines and they are both set to use “Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (OpenCL)” as the Renderer in Adobe Media Encoder.

  Has anybody run into this problem or know what could be happening and a possible solution?
