h.264 encoding for superwide animation
Hey guys, first time poster long time user of these forums and site!
I have searched the forums already and got some decent answers but still am in need of some help. I am creating a 3 LED wide advertising video/animation for a trade show. I have decided to go with a Matrox TripleHead2Go unit to accompany the high end work station (i7, nvidia gtx 460 (or better), 12 gigs of ram, win7) to push the superwide 3840×720 animation to the screens. Before I dive to far into the production I want to make sure the playback is silky smooth achieving around 30 fps playback. I am trying to figure out which codec should be used. Currently I am using a quicktime wrapper with MPEG-4 codec (outputting from adobe media encoder) and am running that via a batch file that opens up via VLC. Results seem decent although I am not a huge fan of the compression artifacting. My question is can H.264 do anything higher than 2K? It seems that adobe media encoder caps H.264 at 2k is that correct? Thanks in advance.
