  How do you do this?

  the text and shape animation. Is it all done within AE or do you do some in Illustrator and import into AE and animate within.

  I’d probably do all of that with text layers in 3D space in After Effects. Even the non-text icons all (or mostly) looked like symbols in wingdings typefaces.
