silent film frame rates (and original look) in FCPX Project
Silent Films generally were 16fps or 18fps (and hand-cranked).
BMPCC 4K and 6K can shoot at those frame rates (obviously in a 24fps “flagged” file and I want to ignore the flag).
During that period, the projection frame rate was variable as well but not necessarily the modern talkie 24fps.
I don’t see a way to create a 16fps timeline in FCPX, whereas Resolve support this and may go that route if there isn’t an FCXP workaround.
So I’m wondering if there’s a way to create a 16fps Project. Perhaps shooting at 16fps and opening clip and editing within that if possible, suggestions?
Otherwise, I might use 16fps clip in 24fps timeline and not speed adjust but that would mean duplicate frames if that might work, suggestions?
Ultimately I want it to look like an “original” with original projection speeds for the period and not speed up to 24fps.
I can certainly run tests but if someone has done this it would be good to know.
If i were to describe a look it would be something shot on the commonly used Bell & Howell 2709 that dominated that period.
