  Macbook won’t detect analog 3.5 mic input. Only iPhone headset works to wake it up (!)

  I have a Macbook Pro retina 2015 with latest Mojave.
  I’m trying to do voice over for some tutorials but the analog 3.5 input won’t recognize my microphone. It feels like this happend after a recent update.
  The only thing that works is a Apple 3.5 headset. Shows up in system preferences and so on… But no external mic that used to work just fine.

  First:
  I know 3.5 audio input is low quality. But it’s good enough for this project. A 2700 Euro computer should be able to work properly…
  I have tried resetting both PRAM and SMC

  I have the Røde SC6 for filming with 2 mics on my iphone so i tried it on my macbook.
  When i connect the 4 pin box the computer recoginize it as headphones but not a mic.
  When i connect the Røde mic to the Røde SC6 nothing happpens. It has a 9w battery and should pop up on sound/system preferences.
  But when i connect a Apple original 3.5 headset to the other mic input on the SC6 my Macbook recognize it as a external audio input. And the same with FCPX Voice over.
  And when i pull out the Apple headset my external Røde mic still works.

  I have had my Macbook for 3 years without any problems like this before…
  Has any body else noticed this recently?

  Yes i have. Forgot to add it in my post though.
  And the 3.5 Apple headset would not work if i hadn’t.
