SONY SxS Card Import Difficulties
Hello. For the last month or so, after software updates, I’m having difficulty loading XDCAM footage via SxS cards. Import time is now very slow with 422 footage and lower-res footage is coming in at the wrong aspect ratio, looks square. I checked Sony for a firmware update and still no luck. This is happening with my desktop and laptop. Anyone else having this difficulty?

Are you importing straight from the card?
Have you tried offloading the footage from the card, first?

16/9 footage is importing to something that looks like 4/4.

That’s what it looks like in the browser or timeline?
What does the inspector say the frame size is?

Thanks for the follow-up. The inspector shows that the aspect is 1440X1080. I just loaded in some 4.2.2. green screen material from the same card and the aspect is fine, 1920×1080. However, it now takes considerably more time to load in compared to previous FCPX updates…

That is “thin raster” HD. Putting this footage in a 1920×1080 HD timeline should result on full HD previews. If you don’t have a 1920×1080 timeline you might be viewing the thin raster instead of the full raster.

From the card or from disk? Or both?
