How can I convert an HEVC video to work in FCP X that I’m running on Sierra?
Someone sent me a iPhone video to edit with. It’s an HEVC file taken on an iPhone 8. I’m running OS Sierra so I can’t import it. I can’t even open it in QT. I can open it in QT 7.
I tried converting it in MPEGStreamclip. The file went black.
Any ideas on how I can convert it so I can edit with it?

I think the OS support for HEVC began with High Sierra.
Any reason why you won’t update the OS?
You could see if the compatible version of Handbrake will convert it to H.264. -
Never switched cause I still dip into FCP 7 time to time for old projects. I know one day I will….that said, I’ll try Handbrake. Any specific?

You can partition your hard drive so you can run two different operating systems. You’re missing major improvements in FCPX.

Oh, really? That makes me want to upgrade. I run 10.4 I didn’t realize it’d run better if I updated my OS.

10.4.1 requires High Sierra I think.. As does the 4 updates after that. Lots of great improvements. Batch export….
