  • Cross dissolve on FCPX titles

Posted by Peter Sandeen on December 9, 2018 at 6:41 pm

I’m an amateur with FCPX and new here, too. But I’ve tried everything I can think of and searched for the answer multiple times with no luck.

I typically use plenty of titles and want to cross-dissolve them. Adding a cross-dissolve typically takes ~30 seconds of hovering the mouse (when dragging the transition) over where the titles meet. The transition attempts to go on one side, instead of “between” the titles. After many enough attempts it always finally works as intended.

Help is much appreciated. Thank you!

Select one of the edges where the titles meet and press +t to add the dissolve.

    Hi Jeff,

Thank you. I’ve tried selecting the full title (on either side) and cmd+t, which has either added the transition on just one title (leaving the other one disconnected) or moved the connection point a little to the left/earlier in the video. But selecting just the edge worked—never realized to try that.

    Thank you!

Your titles need to be touching before you add the transition.

    Then playhead between

    Then command + T

    Hi Tony,

Thank you for the clarification, although I had gotten those parts right before. That said, I’m not sure I ever tried pressing cmd+t without having at least one of the title selected.

But Jeff’s earlier suggestion works, so I’ll go with that.

    Thank you!

[Tony West] “Your titles need to be touching…”

And since they aren’t (they’re both in separate secondary storylines) this unfortunately won’t actually work. Simply not having them in separate storylines (or no storyline at all) would make matters much easier/less confusing.
