  • Thunderbolt to HDMI not cutting it for second 4K monitor!

    Hi
    I am running a late 2013 Mac Pro 3.5Ghz 6 core Intel Xenon E5 (it’s a current variant I think) with 16Gb 1866 MHz DDR3 with an AMD FirePro D500 3Gb

I’ve just added an NEC Multisync EA275UHD display as a reference monitor for FCP 10.4. It has Displayport and HDMI ports.

It is a full 60Hz monitor, but I can’t get anything higher than 30 and I think it’s causing choppy playback. It’s better at 25Hz (25p projects), but I’d rather have the option to go higher to see if it improves. Right now, at 30Hz it’s unwatchable.

I am thinking it’s because I am connecting from the Mac through a thunderbolt port to HDMI adaptor and not the DisplayPort route.

Is there a thunderbolt to DisplayPort adaptor that will give me 60Hz? Or do I need to do something more drastic or £££/$$$. I did Google this of course, but the results were not exactly helpful.

    thanks very much

Sorry, it was a cable issue, all resolved.

    😉
