  • Getting background layer to ‘interact’ with foreground layer.

I have a background layer which is basically a fly through tunnel type of stock footage. Bright streaks of light, coloured light rays flying at you..

Anyways, I have my main layer and want the above background layer to maybe ‘shimmer’ off my main layer. Interact with it is the best way I can describe. When light and dark areas change on my main layer I want it to affect the above background layer so that it looks like the rays are really comming off my main layer.

The best way I can describe the result I want is to have light rays comming off my image. The rays must interract with the image. I don’t want to use ‘Shine’ in this case because I want to use my stock footage.

I tried different transfer modes and found hard light to work well. Problem is that my result just looks like 2 layers playing at the same time without having anything to do with each other.

I can’t seem to work out how to get the end result I’m looking for.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I don’t think I’m fully understanding your question.

Are you saying you want the light and colours of your background layer to affect your smaller, foreground layer AND for stuff on your foreground layer to affect the background/tunnel thing?

I sorry I didn’t explain this one too well.

Yes I want the lights and colours of my background layer to appear to be bouncing and comming off objects and movements in my foreground layer (Both layers same size).

I feel I’m halfway there by using the hard light transfer mode. Do I have to make some sort of mask or bump map or something to get it to appear to be bouncing off stuff in my foreground layer?
