  • Color smoke alpha–edges look black?

Posted by Tim Vining on March 6, 2018 at 8:18 pm

I have a white smoke on black background image that I want to export as green smoke with an alpha. I was able to Tint the smoke green and a use a Luma Key to key out the black, but when I export and composite it in a third-party application, the smoke is green and the black is now transparent, but the edges of the smoke shade to black on their way to transparency, since I assume it is shading into the black background in FCPX as it gets translucent, rather than looking green all the way towards transparency. Is there a way to make the smoke so that it shades green to transparent rather than green to black to transparent?
