  How to create/clone/multiply people into large crowd

  Hello all

  I’ve heard it’s possible to multiply people in a clip (e.g. a dancing group), to look like hundreds of people – creating a huge crowd scene.

  Searched Youtube tutorials and Apple sites, but can’t find anything on this topic.

  Greatly depends on what you have to work with in terms of footage but I would suggest doing that in Motion not FCPX.

  I haven’t taken any footage yet, but I’m working on a music clip where I’ll want to turn a few people dancing into a big crowd.

  I have not used Motion. I’d be glad of any advice you could give please. Is it compatible with FCP X ?

  •I would suggest storyboarding so your camera person (or you if you’re shooting it yourself) knows what’s planned. The simplest way would be to film a large locked off on a tripod shot and have the same group move from place to place filling in what would be a much larger group, then combine the various takes into one single composite.

  Thanks again Noah. Appreciate your input.
  So, on the video you attached, is it the part starting at 1:14 where Motion would be used to composite the various pieces of footage?
  I notice on the example in the video that people (after the composite) don’t really overlap. They are all walking singly up the steps. For a lot of people dancing, I’d be looking at overlapping; some people would be partially obscured, etc. i.e they’d be bunched up. Is this where I’d use Motion?

  And then can my newly created crowd scene be imported into my FCP timeline?

  Noah, thank you for your assistance. I’ve looked at Motion.

  Then I thought I may be able to do the crowd scene simply by using the keyer on FCP.
  I replicated my husband and I dancing, turning us into a large crowd.

  This worked, however a lot of the footage is dragging. Do you think this will right itself when ‘background tasks’ are completed?
