The only choice offered is “import from the Facetime camera.” Is it possible to capture footage from DV tapes in camcorder via firewire (or even an analog hookup) any more??

Haven’t done this in a long time but far as I know, yes it is still supported. The camera has to be connected and switched on for the input source to be available.

I am using a mid 2015 Imac with the latest operating system and FCPX 10.2.3. The computer doesn’t see the camera in “devices” and opening FCP to ” Import media >from camera” just gives me the Facetime camera. No other options in evidence. I note that all the discussions and threads about this are 5-6 years old and most likely outdated with regard to hardware and software.

Apple says it works – DV import via FireWire is still an option according to the FCPX user manual.

Could your Firewire>TB adapter be bad? I just got thru importing a ton of old footage using an old Z7U without issue.

    Good luck!

I don’t know what’s wrong. Cable, port, camera.. Please specify what adapter you use to connect firewire to a current computer that has no firewire input.

Assuming your Mac has a Thunderbolt port, you want an Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire Adapter
