  • Export After Effects Titles as Final Cut Pro Title template?

Posted by Duke Senter on February 16, 2017 at 5:32 pm

My workplace purchased 125 After Effects titles as one .aep file.
The help file says to go into After Effects and edit the text of the title and then export it.

I am much less skilled at After Effects than I am at FCP. From a workflow perspective, it seems I would be faster getting a template in FCP rather than editing the title in AE and exporting a custom title to FCP.

Is there a way to export those AE titles as FCP title templates like you can in Motion?

    Thanks in advance,
    Duke

Only as finished graphics w an alpha channel. AFX and Motion files have zero interoperability.

That’s unfortunate. Why to workplaces not think to talk to end users when they do this sort of thing. Titles and their integration with FCPX is one of the things that Motion does REALLY well.

I would explain to them that Motion templates are a much better investment, particularly if you have any Motion skills because it makes individualizing the template easier and ensuring that your business isn’t using the same templates as a bunch of other businesses.

Also in either event- most templates are dirt cheap…

This happened to me as well in the past. Taking a few minutes (hours) playing with how to edit the GRX in AE pays off.

I used AE to build all of my customized GRX pieces (without the background video), exported as MOV files (with Alpha) and then just comp’d things together in FCPX. I found dealing with the multitude of actual video files as easier in FCPX.

    Good luck!
