  How to work on a Final Cut pro 10.3 version in Final Cut Pro 10.1

  My son is working on a video project at school. The school has Final Cut Pro 10.1. The version of Final cut he has at home is 10.3. Is there any way to make this work, that does not involve the school upgrading its version of Final Cut Pro?

  Nope- you can update older Projects to newer versions of FCPX but you cannot open newer version projects in older versions of the app.

  XML exchange unfortunately would only work going from 10.1 to 10.3 but not the other way around.

  It might work if, on the 10.3 machine, you select ‘Previous Version (1.5)’ for the XML format on export… worth a test anyway. It’s entirely possible that some things will get lost in translation, depending on the project. I’m all-in on 10.3 so can’t test it myself.
