Finally got to spend some quality time with the new version of FCPX 10.3. After some brief disorientation about where things are and a few Ripple Training tutorials I dug into to audio roles to re-edit a project. This couldn’t have come at a better time for me, since I have been required learn sound editing in Protools. Structurally, the lanes and roles in X are close enough to Protools that it has opened up a lot of new possibilities and the concepts learned using Protools transfer easily to X. Now it is easy to turn music on and off, or ambience etc, to focus on what type of audio that you want to modify. Not only will this make audio editing faster on X, it will make it possible to do it much better. Oh and I like it way better than Protools.

Cut a music promo on it so basically opened it up for the first time.

After three hours I was very happy with the speed.

I was fumbling around and got worse when I switched my workspace to Dual display.

It was great on my Dual Apple Cinema 30s but I really looked lost in front of the client ?

All good, he liked the fact that he was the first on my system 😉

Here’s a good overview on how FCPX3 handles audio processing through roles and subroles.
