  • Keying out tricky spot on greenscreen

    Hi,

Any hints on keying out this spot (an abrasion on the green screen) by his left hip? He moves across it many times in a 7 min clip.

I would bring it into After Effects and mask as much as possible.
But might as well do the green screen there if you have access to AE.

Slice x makes this easy but if for some reason you can’t get it, you can make a duplicate layer, offset the position on the x or y axis, just far enough to get clean green from near the same area, and crop it to create a moving mask before keying…

    Other options-

Motion track the guy using the built-in tools, and parent a green patch from nearby to it in Motion or AE. before doing the key.

Multipoint drawn mask tool is keyframe-able, and easy to use right in FCPX.

You could try to chromakey the tear using it’s specific color.

Yes, Noah. That’s me. Instead I’ll use another studio or bring some green spray paint next time. They seemed to have dismissed my request to fix it with, ‘just stand infront of it’, and, ‘you can fix it in post if you need to’. I’m new to green screen work. I’m an outdoor natural light kind of guy. Thanks for the link.

Hi Mark. Finally I’ve returned to this after some time. I have now got Slice X and have fiddled around with it for over 5hrs now and can’t seem to get anything close to what I need. Would you have some tips, or a workflow for me? Much appreciated.
