Library location
What’s the consensus on a system with a “trash can” Mac Pro and a Thunderbolt Pegasus array? Where to put the FCPX Library files – on the internal drive or on the array? With older Mac Pro tower set-ups, I usually split it, putting the Library on the internal drive and the media on the external. But with a faster array, is that still necessary?

Depends on the media you’re working with- that will require the speed more than the Library itself if it’s high bandwidth. These days I put my Libraries anywhere but the system drive.

HD and 4K. ProRes or other media (from A7, C300 MkII), etc. So, media will always be on the array.

As they say YMMV but assuming you will be the only editor I’d just go Library and Media on the same drive. At this point it’s streamlined enough as a container it won’t gain much being on the system HD.

I tend to put the libraries in a FCP Doc folder on the RAID. I have prefs set to leave media in place, but that being said, the Library file bloats pretty quickly with cache files, render files, etc. Fast RAID, no slowdown.
