Non standard resolution/aspect ratio projects
Hi – just starting a new project for an ultra wide projection, and was hoping to use FCPX, but want to understand the best way to start the project.
The resolution settings will be at 16:10 aspect ratio so a minimum of 3840 x 1080 high. All media is filmed on Red Epic Dragon at 6k so there is plenty of space for re-sizing. If I started this project in Premiere, you would set your custom project size and import media. You would then need to scale each clip to fit inside your widescreen letterbox, but this gives lots of scope for adjusting framing and stabilising shots. How can I match this in FCPX so I can constantly re-frame and stabilise?

Basically you do exactly what you said, only in FCPX :-). Start a new project, under Video Properties, choose Custom and set the required frame size then import the media and scale as needed.

Ok cool – thanks for quick reply.
Suppose it’s an adjustment of the way you think of the properties of the clip because if you set an ultra widescreen project and then import a 6K clip that should be enormous, it scales to it leaving the view letterboxed. You then need to scale the clip up to fill the project window, instead of scaling each one down.
