Share to DVD takes “forever”
Is it just me or do other people notice that it takes “forever” to output a timeline to a DVD-Video?
the one I did earlier took about 3 hours, then I noticed an error, so I make the correction,
and then after half an hour the background tasks still save 2% complete.The video is a little under 2 hours.
It was shot in SD on a Panasonic HVX-200. A 26.3 GB of files with some titles
and a time / date stamp.Still on 2% 10 minutes later.
an hour ago the FCPX had “hung up” so I had to force quit and then re-start the system.Any clues would be appreciated!

I would export to ProRes and then take that into Compressor for MPEG2/DVD rather than do it all out of FCPX. That export time includes rendering everything in your time and downconverting it too. Plenty of time for something to go wrong and waste the whole effort.

By “export to ProRes”
do you mean “Share to Master File” that is ProRes and a 2 hour file will be 40 GB?
or “Send to Compressor” and in compressor do “Burn Disk”?

Both actually but sounds like you need to do some basic troubleshooting on your system and install if X is dying so much.

DVD share problems, I opine, often come from logjams in memory space allocation/ drive choices. Since it has to build the entire disk virtually before burning it, sharing to DVD needs plenty of free space in Virtual RAM as well as system RAM.
How much space is in your boot drive and in the Av/RAID array?

You seem to be quite aware of the amount of time. You’re not sitting in front of the computer working in X while its exporting in the background are you? Because while it is a background task, it completely pauses whenever you’re doing anything in X.
If you truly want to do it in the background you’ll need to export your final master to ProRes, then drop that file into compressor and do the same process there.

The Mavericks Boot drive has about 50 GB free at the moment,
and the USB 3 Seagate drive that the project is on has a few hundred GB free.and 18 GB of RAM.

Also, what are the settings on the project you”re importing the SD files into?
If there’s a raster mismatch of any kind, X will potentially spend a LOT of effort mapping the raster of the old clips to the new project standard with high precision.
Use Mediainfo or something similar to be SURE of the incoming clips raster and use THAT for the receiving project.
