  Quick way to ID codecs at finder level?

  I’ve been told that FCPX shows the original codec in the inspector even if its been transcoded to prores. I want to be certain I don’t have any H.264 codec mov files in my project.

  Is there a utility that lets you click on a file and see the codec while in the finder?

  I went to the library and copied a file that had been transcoded to PR 422 and imported it back into my library and it did ID it as prores in the inspector. I don’t want to reimport all the files just to see the codec in the inspector, however.

  This doesn’t answer specifically what you want, but if you don’t get an answer consider Mediainfo.

  There are several app’s called media info, media-info, mediainfo, etc. but the one linked to above is available from the Mac App Store and is always one of the first things I install on a new Mac.

  Command I. Get info in the finder. Twirl down More Info: Codec info is right there.
