    HI,

I’m trying to make a 2 second and a 1 second Custom Background Solid to saved use over and over again instead of having to put a 10 second one on a timeline and changing the duration every time.

Here’s what I have been doing:

    1) Right clicking a Custom Black Solid in FCP X and choosing “Open in Motion.”
    2) Motion opens.
    3) I change the in and out points and push the video to the left so it’s only 2 seconds.
    4) I “save as” then I publish it to FCP X and name it
    5) When I go back to FCP X, I see it but when I put it on the timeline it’s still 10 seconds long.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks in advance.

You need to change the duration of your motion generator project to 2 seconds from within motion. While youre at it, make a 2 second one, a 1 second one, etc. We also have a ‘fade from color’ and ‘fade to color’ one that is 1 second. I think 1 second is the minimum length you can have for a generator.

If you create it from scratch it’s easier. Make sure that you enter the correct length when you create the Generator project and then just drop a Color Solid into the Project, set it’s color of 16,16,16 (assuming you want Broadcast Legal Black) and save it as a generator preset. I created one with a published Rig that present a dropdown of Broadcast Black, Broadcast White, and Neutral Gray in FCP X. It’s pretty easy to set up.

    Hi,

Thanks for the info. I did create a 2 second and a 1 second Black slug.

Now how can I make a 2 second and a 3 second crossfade and wind blur in Motion as well?

    Thanks in advance.
