Does anyone know the secret of the creation and saving of roles?

I have a few roles that I use for everything, and when I make a new edit, I frequently need to go into “edit roles” and add my roles again and again. Sometimes they are already in there, and other times they are gone.

Interesting enough, I have some export settings for “Roles As” when I’m performing my final export, and my roles are always in there, however I’m getting a little tired of having to add those roles again and again when I create new projects. Although, sometimes they are still there from the previous project and I don’t need to re-add them.

Does anyone know the logic of why sometimes my created roles are still in my roles list and other times they disappear? Or how to keep them there? Perhaps I need to have a simple dummy project with my favorite roles, and open that project first? I may have just answered my own question.

Aren’t roles saved within the library? Create a new library and you start over. Isn’t that correct?

I don’t think so. I use FCPX at work every day, and I use one library that I add and remove events to and from. When I get a new edit, I import the material into a new event in my work library, and create a new project to start editing. Sometimes the roles are still there, and other times they are not. Sometimes only one is there, and the others are not.

It’s a very small thing, but it annoys me every time I start a new project and the roles aren’t there.

I believe a « role «  must be linked to a minimum of one clip to survive a close and re open of FCPX (it was so in 10.1) maybe it is still that way. You could create a basic library with an event containing one frame clips for every ROLE required …

Or 1 clip with all your roles applied to it. Probably doesn’t even have to be online.
