  • Final cut pro 10.2.1 crashes when updating library

Posted by Hester Jonkhout on July 29, 2015 at 10:23 pm

I just updated to FCPX 10.2.1. Now some libraries update and open and some make FCP crash. It will show the rainbow ball, while ‘updating’ the library.
I looked on the internet and saw this is an 10.2.1 issue, but haven’t seen any solutions. Anyone ? (Please) ?

The other thread you responded to has a decent list of trouble shooting.

What I think ends up tripping up fcpx the most is some errant alias or media file.

The easiest thing to do is to open the library without the media drive attached.

This, for whatever reason, allows the library to open. Then plug in the media drive and reconnect the media.

This assumes all of your media is on an external hard drive of some sort.

    Hi Jeremy,

I’ve got my media and library both on an external drive. I’ll try bypassing now by copying the project in a new library in FCPX 10.1 and updating it..I’ll see if that works.
