  Reducing noise in an image

  I have some super 8 footage that I am editing in FCPX and have a portion of the image that has a burn where the film was discolored as it went through the lamp. I ran an instance of Neat video, but it didn’t reduce it because it is common to all frames.

  Any ideas for removing this?

  You could probably reduce that a bit with a mask and some color grading. Or SliceX/TrackX. That said- looks like a particularly bad S8 transfer. Not sure how important this section is or whether it’s possible to get it retransferred.

  Thanks for the reply. It was actual damage to the tape, not the transfer. I will try some color grading and see if I can minimize it. Don’t have a ton of experience with grading, so it will be a good learning experience.

  Yep- you could do a lot with the Draw Mask tool in 10.2 combined with the color effect.

  If you use the color mask and choose the green with the eye dropper then you can either desaturate the color or change it to a different/better color.
