Codec’s & formats a witches brew
I’m editing with a mix of formats i.e.. Hi8 PAL 720x576i (.mov), DV PAL 720x576i (.mov), AVCHD NTSC 1080i, iPhone 1080p NTSC. I’m using the latest FCPX & Premiere 2014. I’m trying to do a multi split frame sequence. In Premiere I’m using a 1080p sequence and dragging in a Hi8 (720x576i) clip. The clip comes into the timeline fine and I can edit it into the split screen without any problems and everything looks fine. When I drag to the timeline the clip comes in at the correct proportional size (576), so I am only scaling down and the image quality is very good. In FCPX using the same parameters as above the Hi8 clip comes into the timeline upscaled to 1080 rather than 576 and the quality is terrible and even worse when I scale down to fit the split screen box. Is this a problem with FCPX not being able to bring in the correct clip size (576) when the project timeline is 1920 x 1080. I can’t find anywhere to force the clip to not upscale. Any help much appreciated.
