Drop shadows and feeze frames… where?
If I place a cropped clip above a track with full-screen material, I’m used to being able to add a drop shadow to the upper cropped clip… but I’m not finding where that’s done from. Also, what’s the way in FCPX to get a freeze frame? The menus weren’t much help. Normally, before posting this as a question, I’d hit the built-in user manual, but that FCPX machine is disconnected form the net today, and thus the entire manual is unavailable, grrrr (/Grump mode on/)…really, Apple? Can’t spare the room to put the manual database in the boot drive? (/end grump mode/)

Drop shadow is not included in the transform controls in X.
I downloaded a free “RT Drop Shadow” plugin. There’s also a drop shadow in the free “Simple 3D” plugin. Don’t remember where they came from, but they work fine. Just drop the effect on the clip.
One caveat: the shadow is applied to the raster boundaries, so if you crop, the cropped edge doesn’t take the shadow (because the technical “edge” of the frame has been hidden by the crop). Very annoying. To workaround, crop the clip, then make it a compound clip (just the one clip). Then apply the shadow or 3D filter to the compound. Silly, but it works.
But the shadow does respect the outline of keyable elements.
Freeze frame: Shift + H is for “hold,” the X equivalent of FF. Park on the point in the clip (in the timeline) you want to freeze, and Shift H. Then drag out the red portion of the retime bar at the top of the clip to the desired length. You need at least 2 frames edited into the timeline so the retime has something to freeze. Then you can trim the head and/or tail of any residual 1-frame bump of motion after you’ve dragged it out to duration.

Not that Jeff’s ideas aren’t legit, but Final Cut Pro X added it’s own drop shadow effect some 2.5 years ago. It’s called basic drop shadow and it’s in effects.
Freeze frame was also added about 2 years ago. Hold still works, but is really a different beast meant for retiming clips. Freeze frame is under the edit menu if I remember correctly. You can connect a freeze frame from the sequence or the event. It works similarly to legacy.

Well color me gobsmacked! (Isn’t gob smack from Willy Wonka?) I found the freeze frame. Don’t know why I’ve never seen that before.
Found the drop shadow in the stylize category. Never would have thought to look for it there.

I finished project on my old FCPX and Mac where i used a lot of RT Drop Shadow plugin ,
now i migrated project on new MAC with new FCPX and can’t find RT Drop Shadow plugin anywhere.So if you can send me please mail me at mrebre@gmail.com or here on forum.

Thank you Jeff,
but i need a independent plugin “RT Drop Shadow”, (when it was single plugin),
my project contain a lot of it, and i just want to install and have finished project, i do not have time to instal different plugin and use it again and again where needed 🙁
So if you have it on your MAC please send me,Thank you anyway!
