  • View audio roles on meters (bussing)?

Posted by Trevor Asquerthian on October 16, 2014 at 10:18 am

I’m back on FCPx again after a little while away…

Is there any way yet of metering roles?

i.e. I’d like to see say an 8 channel audio meter where 1&2 are full mix, 3&4 are ‘dialogue’ roles, 5&6 are ‘fx’ roles and 7&8 are ‘music’ roles

This way I’d be able to get a quick check as I’m building a sequence that my roles are correctly assigned – at the moment I’m having to export a multichannel QT to reimport and check all is good.

    Thanks

[Trevor Asquerthian] “that my roles are correctly assigned”

Either: open the timeline index and select a role. They will highlight.

Or: Simply set the timeline clip appearance settings to show Clip Roles.

There is no mixer in that sense in X. You can click and scale the audio meter in the dashboard and use the roles to selectively mute each group as needed.

Not in the way you’re suggesting, but you can isolate specific audio roles by opening the Index (CMD+SHIFT+2) and clicking on the roles tab, then unchecking all but the role you want to monitor. If you also select the role in the index you’ll be able to see them highlighted visually in your timeline so you can make a visual inspection of them as well.

    Coulda sworn that’s what I wrote. 😀

Yes, thank you to both of you. (Although it’s a bit too clunky to work turning them on and off via the timeline index)

Whereby if you hold the ⌥-key when clicking, that will solo that particular role. Should that make any difference in the “clunkiness”.

Great to know another shortcut, thanks… still laggy, unfortunately.

Stops the timeline and then it’s a couple of seconds before I can play again

Then found that the only way to ‘unsolo’ was to ‘mute all’ with CMD+click, then ‘unmute all’ with CMD+click again – which adds 4-5 seconds, sometimes with pinwheel. This is on a very small sequence.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s usable; but room for improvement…
