  editing mini dv tapes: looks terrible

  Hi,

  I have some mimidv tapes shot on Panasonic DVX 100A and trying to digitize them. They look very grainy and wondering what the best option for digitising. I have tried direct into fxpx and using Quicktime: Native, which looks very slightly better…Other options? Thanks.

  I’ve been doing a lot of miniDV tapes just lately, and have not found any of them to look bad: some are old and dropouty, and the frame size of the SD ones is small. Make sure your monitor is set to view 100% or they really degrade! I’ve been dropping them into a 720p timeline, and it looks good this way, even stretched to fit.

  Have you played the footage back directly from the camera on a monitor. Maybe the footage is grainy?
