  Advice needed on how to add multiple movie windows into a main clip

  Hi,

  I am wanting to create a similar “movie in a movie” effect (sorry not sure how else to describe it) as seen with polaroids in this clip at 40 secs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ziiWD4l823E

  I was wondering if it were best to have the polaroids painted as a green screen and lock off the shot and then add movement and other clips in post… or if there were a better / easier way to approach it.

  I can think of 2 ways to do this. All graphics in Motion or AfterFX, or shooting the scene with white cards for the polaroid backgrounds then tracking those shapes and inserting the videos. You could do the latter inside FCPX using CoreMelt’s excellent TrackX plugin (with Mocha). I’m not sure which way is easiest. I’d probably try the tracking approach.

  thanks John… I’ll look into that tracking option for FCPX. Sounds perfect. The trick will be how they overlap I guess… I did think about drop boxes in motion but was unsure how the over lap and tracking would work… thanks again

  CoreMelt also has a great mask tool that also tracks called SliceX. Using that would help with the overlap. The are demos and tutorials at CoreMelt.
