Multicam with one camera on the entire time, one taking short clips, how to sync? FCPX 10.1.1
Okay, I have never done multicam before and now I just can’t seem to piece together how I am supposed to sync all the clips together.
This is for FCPX 10.1.1.
Here is what I have done. I filmed a play using one camera as a wide shot and left it on the entire time (turns out there are 4 large clips because of intermissions).
On the other camera I kind of danced around taking close ups of the actors, there are 200 clips of these. Is there an easy way to sync the 200 small clips with the 4 large clips in FCPX 10.1.1??? Or am I doomed to do this all manually on a timeline?

if you had the audio on for both cameras you can create a multi cam clip and ask FCP X to sync using audio.
If both cameras happen to have matching TC, then you could ask it to sync that way.
The best thing to do would be to Load all the clips, create a multi cam clip and sync via audio.If you do not have audio on both sources, you will have a tough time.

everything is okay, as long as you have audio and/or timecode on both cameras. This is normal practice, so I suppose that isn’t a problem?
What you do is, you select the long clip and go into the inspector, in to the INFO – SETTINGS tab, and you put Angle: 1. (or wide, or whatever you want to call it).
You then select all the other clips from the close-up camera, and in the INFO-SETTINGS tab you put under Angle: 2 (or close, or again, whatever suits you).
You can select all these clips from both cameras together, and let it make a multicam clip automatically. Shouldn’t be a problem.

Okay, so I went into the INFO/SETTINGS like you said:
1) I gave the 4 long clips “Angle 1”
2) I gave the 200+ short clips “Angle 2” (you know you did this right if n the browser it lists the camera angles beside the clips)
3) I then selected all the clips in the browser (I had them all in one Library folder) and then selected the Multicam command under FILE/NEW/MULTICAM CLIP…BTW, yes, there was audio on all the clips…
And it worked beautifully. Wow. That would have taken me hours to do that manually! Many, many thanks David!
Now, though, I have these gaps on the Multicam
1) How do I get rid of these? i.e., make is so those clips are together and not have that grey area between them?
2) Could I get a quick sentence as to how to edit in multicam?

I had a problem with sync shooting a live act where the fixed wide cam got audio from both the house board and a couple of my mics out by the camera. The camera was way back so the sync between the stage action and house sound and mic sound was slightly off due to the distance of the camera from the stage and the time it took the sound to travel from front to the back mics. As the offset was constant it wasn’t a big deal. It was only a couple of frames and it was fixed by sliding the track. It took me a while to figure out what was happening.
