I’ve just started digging into the new version lately (been too busy). Everyone’s been talking about the new Media Management configuration in 10.1 but I just discovered my favorite new feature, one I’ve been asking for awhile now.

If you select an existing keyword collection and then import into FCPX, those clips are automatically tagged with that keyword collection. It’s awesome.

Sure, it’s no Audio Component Fade Handles, but this is at least something I’ll use every day.

    It’s a huge help.

Now if we could just assign Roles in the import window!

Or at least translate Tags in the OS to Roles on import so that you can assign roles when organizing your footage.

How do you create tags on media before you import in FCPX?

You can’t. It’s wishful thinking on my part. You can assign a Tag (OSX feature) to any file in the finder. I was suggesting that FCPX be allowed to read that Tag metadata and assign a corresponding Role to it so it wouldn’t need to be organized after import.

After tags were added to Mavericks, I assumed this would be the case, hopefully it’ll appear in a future update.

I sent it in as a feature request. If enough people clamor for it…
