  FCPX: Comparing Previous Clip In Timeline without Event Viewer?

  Saw the workaround (make a compound clip, add it to event viewer, ctl cmd 3) but still this automatically opens the event viewer soit doesn’t allow for the max use of screen space. Am I missing something? Trying to do some relative grading a la FCP7 , where you could see clips directly before and after in the timeline around the window. Please tell me this exists now within FCP 10.1.1, and I missed it.
